SCOTT PAPERS: letter book of George Scott (d. 1780), D.C.L., F.R.S., F.S.A., of Woolston Hall, co. Essex, supplementing Eg. MSS. 3725-3755; 7 Nov. 1772-15 May 1773. Autograph. Includes many letters relating to St John's College, Oxford. Addressees are indexed on f. 41. This is 'Vol. 55' (f. ii) in the sequence of Scott's letter books. His bookplate is f. iii. Purchased at Phillips, 12 June 1998, lot 322.
Paper; ff. iii+42. 225 x 145mm. Quarter calf, with marbled boards. 230 x 150mm. Both front and back cover have tapes at outside top and bottom corners. The front paste-down (f. i) is inscribed in a contemporary hand `Corno Primo / James Dyer' and the back cover `HAUTBOY.SECONDO.'.
