SULLY PAPERS. Papers relating to the period of Maximilien de Béthune (b. 1559, d. 1641), duc de Sully, and his son François (b. 1599, d. 1678), duc d’Orval; 1598-1785, n.d. French. Once owned by Sir Thomas Phillipps who noted the number 29483 (later altered to 28483) on f. 1. Sold in Phillipps sale at Sotheby’s, 25 June 1973, lot 2053, there described as about 110 pieces, which suggests a slightly larger corpus than now remains; numbered as 29483. Reappeared at Stride & Son, Chichester, May 2003, lot 342. Purchased from J.L.M. Gulley, October 2005.

2. f. 5. Letter from Cour de Parlement, Dauphiné, at Grenoble, signed Baudet; 27 June 1608.
3. ff. 6-7v. Statement of repairs to be done at the Chateau de Montrond by Sieur Charnan; n.d. [1605?]. Montrond, acquired in 1605, was a favourite residence of Sully, and was sold to Condé between 1621 and 1624.
4. f. 8. Estimate of the volume of sales of animals at the market of Poissy near Versailles; n.d. [early 17th cent.].
5. f. 9. Receipt signed by Charlotte Séguier (d. 1704), wife of Maximilien-François (d. 1661), 2nd Duc de Sully.
