See Historical Manuscripts Commission, Report on the Manuscripts of Lord Middleton, preserved at Wollaton Hall, Nottinghamshire (London, 1911), p. 240. Owned by William Coote of Coningsby, Lincolnshire Justice of the Peace (fl. 1430s–1470s) ('Iste liber constat Willielmo Coote de Conyngesby legibus peritissimus', ff. 101v, 275v, 441r); Digby, 9th Baron Middleton of Middleton (d. 1922), Wollaton Hall (Nottinghamshire). Previously deposited at Nottingham University Library. Purchased at Christie’s, 16 Nov. 2005, lot 19.
Vellum; ff. iii+453. 265 × 187mm. (written space 164 × 105mm.). 5-line illuminated initial in gold, blue, pink and red, with a spray-border (f. 339r). Secondary initials in blue or red with pen-flourishing. Medieval binding of leather over wooden boards, sewn on five cords, with one pin-and-strap fastening attached to the upper board. 15th-century legal document re-used as upper pastedown, now lifted. 21st-century white leather cover.
