RICHARD COBDEN: thirty-nine letters to various correspondents, including Sir Henry Cole and Joseph Hume M.P., relating to the Penny Post campaign, the Anti-Corn Law League, Temperance, etc.; 1839-1865, n.d. Partly French. Mounted in a volume, not in strict chronological order. Some letters bear annotations by the recipients. At ff. ii and iii are two printed catalogue descriptions of the letters. The volume also contains two engraved portraits of Cobden (ff. 1v, 41). Bookplate (f. i) of the 1st Viscount Cowdray of Cowdray (d.1927). Purchased at Christie's, 22 June 1988, lot 16.
