MALTA: presentation plans of actual and proposed fortifications in Valletta and its vicinity [by Antoine Maurizio, Count Valperga]; circa 1671. French. All show pinmarks to guide copyists. For Valperga's proposals, see Alison Hoppen, The Fortification of Malta by the Order of St. John 1530-1798 (Edinburgh, 1979), pp. 56-58, 65, 79-83, 90-95, 102, 118-119. The three plans were originally part of the Louvois Atlas (Add. 64108, 64109), prepared for François Michel Le Tellier, Marquis de Louvois (1639-1691), Minister of War to Louis XIV, in 1682-1683, but they appear to have been detached at an early date. Purchased from Roger Mason, Aug. 1985.
