JOHN WILSON CROKER: 'Invitation-notes & answers in July 1825', etc; 1825, 1854. A collection of replies to invitations issued by Croker for an excursion on the Thames on 27 July 1825. Preceded by his note of Aug. 1825 (f. 2), explaining that he had seen a similar collection among the papers of George Selwyn (1719-1791), 'which were amusing not merely as autographs of fashionable people, but as showing how much the form of these trifles has changed since his day', and had therefore decided to keep the present items together, 'which in 50 years time may be a kind of curiosity'. Followed (f. 61) by one letter from Croker's nephew, Edward Giffard, 1854. For further Croker papers, see Add. 41124-41129, 52465-52472. Purchased at Christie's, 16 Oct. 1985, lot 98.
Paper; ff. i+62. 185 x 120mm.
