Three Special Train Notices of the Cape Government Railways relating to the conveying of the body of Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger, President of the Transvaal Republic, on 8 Dec. 1904 from Beaufort West to Norvalspont; 5, 6, Dec. 1904. Also included (f. 24) is a modern photograph of a portrait of President Kruger, inscribed 'J.E.L. /1899'. Owned by William H. Shaw of Riddings, co. Derby, founder of Shaw's hardware and builders' merchants company, and then by Thomas Hopkinson (d.1985), of Ladbrooks, co. Derby, Chairman and Managing Director of Shaw's. Presented by A. J. Wall, B.Sc. (Eng.), C. Eng., M.I. Mech. E., brother-in-law of Thomas Hopkinson, in 1987.

J. Letter, written presumably in Modena, containing an account of the finances of the Franceschetti family, circa 1789-circa 1833, and addressed to the Chief-Lieutenant; circa 1833. Draft. Italian. Bears British Museum stamp of 4 May 1892. Found in the Newspaper Library, Colindale, on 2 Sept. 1987 in a copy of Il Messaggiere Modenese, Dec. 1818 (press-mark PP. 9240. b.) and transferred to Manuscript Collections.
ff. 53-60. 300 x 200mm. Three separate bifolia originally contained within a fourth which served as a postal cover, with traces of an unidentified red wax seal, addressed to the Councillor of State and possibly reused in the Councillor's office as a loose cover for the draft notes.
K. Two receipts signed by Jean Baptist Bourgignon d'Anville, Premier Géographe du Roi, for payment of 90 livres received from his father-in-law, M. Testart, in respect of part payments of his wife's dowry; Paris, 23 Jan. 1745 and 22 Jan. 1747. Purchased from Henry Bristow of Ringwood, Cat. 293, item 26, Oct. 1987.

N. Two fragments of a theological treatise concerning in part man's duty to God and parents; mid 17th cent. (hand). Latin with Dutch translation. From the former binding of Sloane 3177. Incorporated in July 1987.
ff. 71-72v. Both fragments approx. 200 x 70mm., with sixteen lines of text on each side. One fragment originally formed the edge of a page with a narrow margin on the recto. The text on the second fragment aligns with that on the first, with the loss of only a few letters from the middle of each line, and from the right-hand edge on the recto. On the evidence of the verso, where line ends are preserved at both edges, the width of the written column was approximately 120mm.
