HERALDIC VISITATIONS: pedigrees from visitations of Devon, Suffolk and Dorset, with arms in trick and blazon, mainly in the hand of Nicholas Charles (d.1613), Lancaster Herald; circa 1606 (see f. 1). Additions, annotations, etc., occur in the hand of William Camden (d.1623), antiquary and Clarenceux King of Arms, circa 1616 (see f. 65). Camden bought the manuscript collections of Nicholas Charles on his death; see W. H. Godfrey, A. R. Wagner and H. S. London, The College of Arms (1963), p. 136. Minor additions by Sir Henry St George the elder (b.1581, d.1644), Garter King of Arms, are at ff. 90, 93, and pedigrees of the Percival family in an 18th-cent. hand [by the 2nd Lord Egmont?], at ff. 114-116. Indexes to families are at ff. 50-50v, 94 and 96. For manuscripts with a similar provenance see Add. 47177-47179. Belonged to Sir Thomas Phillipps, Bart. (Phillipps MS. 7420). Purchased from Alan G.
