TRAVEL JOURNAL of an anonymous Englishman in the Lake District; 1809. Whereas his itinerary on ff. i, iv runs from 1 July to 30 September, the journal describes only the travels of 17 July to 13 August. Included also are descriptions en route of Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle, Coventry, Birmingham, Lichfield, Kedleston, Matlock, Chester and Lancaster. A loose inserted leaf (f. ii) is a copy dated 1 Sept. 1869 of an entry in the parish register of Plymouth, Devon, recording the marriage of Thomas Gilbert and Elizabeth Hutton on 9 August 1781. Purchased of Harvey's Auctions Ltd., 16 Feb. 1977, lot 42.
