'REGOLAMENTO PER LA CASA DI CORREZIONE': rules for the Grand Ducal Prison, Florence; circa 1786. Italian. Copy sent to the prison reformer John Howard with (f. iv) an accompanying letter from Sir Horace Mann dated 14 April 1786. The original was apparently dated 4 Aug. 1782. Nos. '382' (circular label pasted to upper cover, f. i) and '3216' (inscription on upper cover, f. ii) in two unidentified 19th cent. booksellers' catalogues. No. 1068 in Thorpe's 1836 catalogue (f. iii). Purchased of Thorpe by Sir Thomas Phillipps, 1st Bart. (MS. 9050). Purchased of A. R. Heath Rare Books and Manuscripts, of Bristol, Nov. 1978.
