B, 57731 A, B. DAME MYRA HESS (b.1890, d.1965): notebooks containing a complete record of concert engagements and broadcasts throughout her career, giving details of locations, works performed, conductors, etc.; 14 Nov. 1907-3 Jan. 1962. With the exception of the first notebook, the European engagements are entered at the front and the American at the end (volumes reversed). Compiled by her mother (57730 A, B, ff. 1-56, 100v-129), her secretary, Anita Gunn ((57730 B, ff. 64-99; 57731 A, B) and by a friend, Doris Hare (?) (57730 B, ff. 56-63v, 100). Related press cuttings are in Add. 59859-59861, and Myra Hess's own collection of programmes, lists and correspondence relating to the National Gallery Concerts, 1939-1946, are in the general library at pressmark Cup.404.c.1/1-11.
