POETRY BOOKSHOP PAPERS. Papers of Harold Monro (b.1879, d.1932), Alida Monro neé Klementaski (b. 1892, d. 1969), and of The Poetry Bookshop, etc.; 1889-1969, n.d. Autograph, signed, typewritten, printed and photographs, etc. The collection, made in 1971, includes personal papers of Harold and Alida Monro, and letters between them, 1913-1931 (57738, 57748-57751); drafts of poems and other literary papers of Harold Monro; papers relating to The Poetry Review and Poetry and Drama; papers relating to the management of The Poetry Bookshop, its readings, events and publications, including The Chapbook and Georgian Poetry. Other poets, artists and writers are included, mostly in the volumes of general correspondence (57740-57741, 57752), but also among the volumes containing miscellaneous papers. Literary manuscripts, etc., of Charlotte Mew (b. 1869, d. 1928) are grouped as Add. 57754-57755. The graphic material in Add. 57758-57759 mainly comprises specimens of work done for The Poetry Bookshop. Another collection of Monro papers was sold in 1961 by Alida Monro to the Lawrence Clark Powell Library, University of California, Los Angeles. Other papers, including The Maurice Browne Collection, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the Edward Marsh Papers in the Berg Collection, New York Public Library, are listed in J. Grant, Harold Monro and The Poetry Bookshop (1967). The arrangement broadly follows the detailed description of the collection, including lists of correspondents, etc., given in J. Stratford, The Arts Council Collection of Modern Literary Manuscripts 1963-1972 (1974), pp. 140-153. Purchased from the Arts Council, 11 Nov. 1971.
