The letters include praise of Sitwell's anthology, The Atlantic Book of British and American Poetry (1959), and of Sitwell's own poetry including 'Façade', a musical collaboration with William Walton, as well as ideas for 'composable poems', possible collaborations between Sitwell and Hindemith. The second letter nonetheless includes Hindemith's rejection of Sitwell's proposition of turning her life of Thomas Carlyle published in English Eccentrics (1933) into a short opera. Z. Five sonnets and a poem by and relating to Michel Angelo Buonarroti; late 16th cent. Italian. Michel Angelo's sonnet 'Le Favole del mondo m'hanno tolto' joins two others purporting to be by Michel Angelo referring to works of art, and, in a second hand, a four-line poem on Michel Angelo's 'La Notte' with two sonnets by Paolo di Rosso on a marble crucifix by Benvenuto Cellini. 'Le Favole' contains some variants from the printed text published in 1623. Purchased from Bernard Quaritch Ltd., cat. 920, no. 127, 12 Jan. 1973.
