HERMANN GROSHERMANN: De controversis disputandi legibus; [1639?]. Incomplete. Latin and Greek. Dissertation presented by Hermann Groshermann of Verden, to a board of the Gymnasium of Hamburg, presided by the German philosopher and mathematician Joachim Junge (b.1587, d.1657), Dean of the Gymnasium between 1629 and 1657. The dissertation is divided into numbered paragraphs (1-53, lacks 34-43) and is followed by a short corollary. Transferred from the Department of Printed Books (formerly 501.c.32) in 1973.
Paper; ff. 6, missing one folio between ff. 4 and 5. 196 x 142mm. Written in German humanistic cursive. Probably used as a model for a printed edition, see the 'notae typographicae' on the title-page: 'Hamburgi / Ex officina Typographica Johannis Mosae' and typographical ink stains here and there on the leaves. Hans Mose (died 1631) was operating as a typographer in Hamburg, 1616-1631. Most leaves trimmed at gutter and set on guards. British Library binding.
