'MECHANIC DIALLING OR THE ART OF SHADOWS': collection of works on mechanical dialling, navigation and mathematics; late 18th cent. Illustrated with charts and diagrams, pen and ink, and coloured. Probably derived from printed works, for example those of Joseph Moxon (d.1700), see f. ii. The name 'John [Wrightson?]' written, late 18th cent., f. ii. 'Charles Waistell' stamped on leather, front cover near spine, 19th cent. Formerly owned by the Patent Office Library. The following numbers occur: 'Anon. 106', f. 1; '22/C', f. i; '48/B', f. 1; 'FQ30', front cover, ff. ii, 1; '11763', f. 1. Transferred from the Department of Printed Books with Add. 56248 and Add. 56250, 30 April 1970.

Paper; ff. ii+181. Contemporary pagination 4-330 through ff. 3v-167v. 205 x 165mm. One hand throughout. Original binding, brown leather spine, boards covered in marbled paper.
