GIBBS NOTEBOOK: notes of William Gibbs, Esq., relating to discoveries of Anglo-Saxon and Roman antiquities at Faversham, Kent; 1856-1869. Included are dated entries of finds in the Brick Field al. Kings Field and on the site of the railway line. Illustrated with pen and pencil drawings, a rough sketch map in pencil (ff. 1v-2) and a coloured drawing. Correspondence relating to the finds is mounted in the volume. The item was bequeathed by Gibbs to the South Kensington Museum with his Anglo-Saxon collection in 1870. When the antiquities were placed on loan to the British Museum in 1895, prior to permanent transfer in 1938-1939, the notebook remained in the Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum and bears National Art Library stamps and shelf marks, etc. Transferred from the National Art Library, Victoria and Albert Museum, 31 July 1970, in order that it should be with the antiquities. On permanent loan to the Department of Medieval and Later Antiquities, British Museum.
