MINUTE-BOOK OF THE EGYPTIAN SOCIETY, kept until 28 May 1742 by the Rev. Jeremiah Milles, as 'Reis Effendi', and from 5 Nov. by the Rev. Richard Pococke; 11 Dec. 1741-16 Apr. 1743. Partly Greek and Latin. Preceded (ff. 1-2) by a drawing of a sistrum and a calligraphically written Latin poem of 52 hendecasyllables by Dr Thomas Dampier, Dean of Durham, 1742. At the beginning are members' signatures, aft. 1741-aft. 1743 (ff. 3-4b), a list of members who had not been to Egypt, 1743 (ff. 5, 6), and the society's laws, 1743, etc. (ff. 10-11). Includes reports of members' papers and drawings of objects shown. See W. R. Dawson, Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, xxiii, 1937, pp. 259-60, who states, wrongly, that William Stukeley was the Secretary. Armorial bookplate (f. i), no. 24158 in the Franks Collection, of Walter Prideaux, of the Goldsmiths' Company, whose books were sold at Christie's, 29 May 1889.
