CORRESPONDENCE OF GENERAL SIR ARCHIBALD JAMES MURRAY
(b. 1860, d. 1945), as Commander-in-Chief Mediterranean and Egyptian Expedi-tionary Force, with General Sir William Robert Robertson (b. 1860, d. 1933), as Chief of the Imperial General Staff, relating to the conduct of the war in Egypt and Sinai; 1916-1917. Mostly signed and copies. Preceded (52461, ff. 1-3) by correspondence relating to the presentation of 52461-52463 to the Museum and their reservation from public use, 1932. 52463 comprises one of 'Only six copies [of the correspondence privately] printed' (note inserted on f. i) by Murray in 1932, with minor omissions and additions, the 'proofs [being] all destroyed except the final proof which [J. M.] Dent [and Sons Ltd] hold(?)' (f. i). The present papers are evidently related to the Murray Papers used by V. Bonham-Carter for his biography of Robertson, Soldier True, 1963. See also Sir Archibald Murray's Despatches, published by Murray in 1920. Presented by General Sir A. J. Murray in 1932 and reserved until 1964.
