INVENTORY ROLL OF JEWELS, PLATE, ETC., charged to Robert Woodhouse, Keeper of the Wardrobe, with valuations and records of issue or disposal; compiled 20 Edward II [8 July 1326-20 Jan. 1327] for the accounting year 18 Edward II, ending 7 July 1325, as appears from the beginning of the inventory, Public Record Office, E 101/380/7, m. 1, from which the present roll was separated at an unknown date. Partly Latin. Mostly French. Imperfect. E 101/380/7, mm. 2 sqq., is part of a similar inventory for 17 Edward II, apparently subjoined to m. 1 in error. Lists jewels and plate in the Tower of London, but also some jewels and chapel ornaments at Ravensdale and plate at Iron Acton. Bold headings dividing it into six sections and giving the whereabouts of the contents, when and on what authority they were delivered to the Wardrobe, and other details, have been crossed out. Each is annotated 'cancellat. quia non est in onere scaccarii', indicating that the contents were not charged to the Exchequer (to which the Wardrobe accounted). Written on the left-hand side of the roll, while on the right issues are recorded, to Edward III as Earl of Chester for his service overseas, 11 Sept. 1325, and to Edward II 'in recessu suo de Chepstowe', 20 Oct. 1326, though most issues were made, 12 Mar., 1 Edward III [1327]. At the end (mm. 7-8) is a list, written in three columns, of plate received from the Exchequer, Aug. 1325, May 1326. The two bold headings remain uncancelled. Belonged to Sir Thomas Phillipps, Bart. Phillipps MS. 24017. Sotheby's sale-cat., 28-29 June 1965, lot 87.
Vellum roll; membranes 8. 5800 x 280mm. 1326-1327. Ruled and written in a fine Chancery hand with bold headings. The number '826' on a pasted-down round paper disk, m. 1d.
