COTTON PEDIGREE: genealogical roll with arms in pen of the family of Bruce Cotton of Conington, co. Hunt., the ancestors and descendants of Sir Robert Cotton, the antiquary; 1754-1755. Compiled by Nicholas Brett of Spring-Grove, Wye, co. Kent, chaplain to Sir Robert Cotton, 5th Bart., son of the Rev. Thomas Brett, LL.D., and completed 15-18 March 1754. Copied and blazoned by John Hinde. Collated, examined and signed by Brett, 23 April 1755. Incorporated are explanatory memoranda and a list of sources. Decorated with numerous coats of arms in pen, pen-work scrolls at the head, drawings of coronets, knights, etc. At the foot of the pedigree is a large shield quartering all the arms of the heirs of Sir John Cotton, 4th Bart., surrounded by a floral design in watercolour. Purchased from Quaritch, Cat. 870, item 518, 23 July 1966.
Vellum; 6 membranes. 830mm x 5 metres approx. Mounted on a wooden roller.
