ROSE PAPERS: correspondence and papers, official and private, of George Rose, the statesman and friend of William Pitt, together with the papers of his son, Sir George Henry Rose, G.C.H., the diplomatist, and of his grandson, Field-Marshal Hugh Henry Rose, Baron Strathnairn. This archive, which is imperfect (lacking, e.g., the diaries of George Rose from which extracts were printed in L. V. Harcourt, The Diaries and Correspondence of the Right Hon. George Rose), was bequeathed by Lord Strathnairn to his brother, Sir William Rose, K.C.B., from whom it.'passed by bequest to his sister's son, Admiral the Hon. George Henry Douglas. The papers, to which were added some naval log-books, etc., of Admiral Douglas, came eventually into the possession of the latter's grandson, Capt. A. S. G. Douglas, C.B.E., of the Rifle Brigade, from whom they were acquired. Seventy-three volumes, together with a volume comprising five rolls and another consisting of seven maps.
