Title:

PAPERS, MAINLY OF PHILIP HENRY (1631-1696), nonconformist divine, his family and descendants; 1661-1805. For other papers of the Henry family see Add. MSS. 45534-45538, the references quoted in art. 3 below, and Bodleian Library Record, iii, 1950-1951, p. 224. The principal contents are:-

(1) Correspondence of Philip Henry, his wife Katherine (d. 1707), their children and descendants; 1685-1735, n.d. Included are letters of Matthew Henry, the divine (1662-1714), son of Philip Henry, addressed to his father, mother and wife. Most of the letters between 1696 and 1704 are addressed to Mrs Henry, those between 1726 and 1735 to John Tylston, junior (d. 1746), grandson of Philip Henry. The names of the writers are given in the Index to this Catalogue. ff. 1-75.

(2) Devotional journals (mainly copies or extracts), memoranda, etc.; 1686- 1752, n.d. The authors include Sarah Savage, Katherine Tylston, and Ann Hulton, daughters of Philip Henry, and Katherine (?) and Hannah Tylston, daughters of John Tylston, junior. ff. 76-177.
