In parts, as follows:- 1st violin, ff. 1b-10; 2nd violin, ff. 11b-19 (imperfect, by the loss of a folio between ff. 14 and 15); viola, ff. 20-25b; violoncello, ff. 26-32b. Formerly the last six (nos. 34-39) in a quartet collection of which the remainder, by Haydn, Mozart, Cambini, Hoffmeister, Steibelt and Fränzl, is now missing (former label of 1st violin part, now f. i). Not included in the thematic index of chamber music by Carl and Anton Stamitz in Denkmäler Deutscher Tonkunst, xvi, 1915, pp. xlvi-1iii. Presented by Cecil Hopkinson, Esq.
Paper and (ff. ii-vi) vellum; ff. vii+32. Quarto. Early XIX cent. Ff. ii-vi comprise fragments from the former binding of the 1st violin part, including (f. ii) a fragment of a 16th century rental of lands in Locon, Noyelle and Vitry[-en-Artois], Dépt. Pas-de-Calais, apparently belonging to a priory at Béthune. Pastedown (f. vii), strengthening centre fold of f. 9, annotated 'PARIS'.
