THE ADMINISTRATION OF GABRIEL CANO DE APONTE, Governor of Chile 1717-1733; residencia or official inquiry conducted by his successor, José Antonio Manso de Velasco, 1739-1740. Spanish. The original manuscript, consisting of at least two sections (of which the second bears the original foliation) and relating to inquiries in the cities of Santiago (ff. 1-161b, 319- 341b) and Concepcion (ff.162-318b). Included are lists of the interrogatories (ff. 1- 13, 172-181b) and signed evidence given before the notaries Domingo de Otteiza, in Santiago (ff. 14-146b) and Juan Francisco de Arrechea, in Concepcion (ff. 182-317b). Some letters and documents of an earlier date are included. Apparently imperfect at the beginning and end. Paper; ff. ii + 341. Folio. 1739-1740. Formerly in the India Office Library (book-stamp, ff. i, iib). Note on f. 1: 'Received from Secretary Feby 8th 1840.' Presented by the Secretary of State for India.
