A TREATISE, entitled (f. 3) 'Discorso se le Decime siano debiti legitimi ouero Limosine uolontarie', apparently unpublished, directed against the views of John Wycliffe and the followers of John Huss on tithes, by Giovanni Ciampoli (d. 8 Sept. 1643), Secretary for Briefs to Popes Gregory XV and Urban VIII until his disgrace and exile from Rome in 1632. Italian. Presumably a copy (note Wycliffe's name is misspelt consistently 'Vieleffo'). Preceding the text, on f. 2, is an address by Ciampoli to Francesco Angelo Rapaccioli, congratulating him upon his promotion to Cardinal, 13 July 1643. Paper; ff. i + 61. 270 mm. x 190 mm. XVII-XVIII cent. At the top left-hand corner of f. 3 is written 'Tomo 104' and on f. 1 below the title 'V/III' in top left-
hand corner of f. 1b is the number 112 (in an 18th-cent. Italian hand). Armorial bookplate of Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford (d. 1827) (f. i). The MS. is not certainly identifiable in the Guilford sale-cats. of 15 Dec. 1828-17 Dec. 1835, but is possibly lot 55 in that of 8 Dec. 1830.
