GEORGEIDA: an epic poem of ten cantos in Portuguese on the Peninsular War by Francisco de Paula Medina e Vasconcellos, notary in Funchal, Madeira Is., composed in 1811 (cf. f. 4b) and dedicated to George, Prince of Wales. Calligraphically written copy, perhaps for presentation. Printed, with variations, at London in 1819 but there dedicated to Robert Page, merchant in Madeira. After the prologue are two sonnets, the first (f. 5) addressed by the author to his friend 'Doutor Anastacio Bithencourt Moniz' (Dr Anastacio Moniz de Bettencourt), followed by Bettencourt's reply (f. 5b). Paper; ff. i + 151. Folio. Aft. A.D. 1811.
