TRIO in G major for flute (ff. 3b-4b, 3), violin (ff. 5b-6b, 5) and figured bass (ff. 1b-2b), in parts, by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, composed at Potsdam in 1747 (Wotquenne, Thematisches Verzeichnis der Werke von Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, no. 150). Copy, apparently unpublished, 18th cent. An autograph manuscript of the work is in the Bibliothèque du Conservatoire at Paris and another copy is in the Bibliothèque du Conservatoire Royal de Musique at Brussels (see E. F. Schmid, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach und seine Kammermusik, 1931, p. 169). Paper; ff. 6. Folio. XVIII cent. On f. 1 is a note, in a 19th-cent. hand: 'Verglaiche C. Ph. E. Bach's Catalog, Seite 37, No. 10' (referring to the Verzeichniss des musicalischen Nachlasses des vestorbenen Capellmeisters C. P. E. Bach, Hamburg, 1790). The book-stamp on ff. 1, 3 and 5: 'Fr. Nicolai Trio No. 21', suggests that the manuscript belonged to the bibliophile and musician Frederick Nicolay, Principal Page to Queen Charlotte (d. 1809), and was perhaps bequeathed to his son William (see A. Hyatt King, 'Portrait of a Bibliophile V: Frederick Nicolay', The Book Collector, ix, 1960, p. 412). Other music manuscripts in the Museum formerly owned by Nicolay are Add. MS. 32026 and Eg. MS. 2488. Presented by the Worcestershire Association of Musical Societies.
