SKETCH-MAP OF THE RIVER IRRAWADY from Prome northwards to Amarapara; circ. 1819-1825. Islands, creeks, and tributaries are indicated, and towns, villages and pagodas along the eastern bank are given in detail, but only the more important features on the opposite bank are noted. The map is not to scale, but distances along the road which follows the eastern bank are given in 'tynes'. As to the date of the map, the spelling of most names differs widely from forms found later and many names of villages appear neither in the 1825 survey of the river, made at the time of the First Burmese War, nor on subsequent maps; on the other hand, the capital of Burma appears to be located at Ava, to which it was transferred from Amarapura in 1819. Rice paper roll (now backed with paper). 6.40 m. x 0.59 m. Circ. 1819-1825. Presented by the City of Perth Museum.
