GRIMM DRAWINGS. Pencil drawings by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm (b. 1733, d. 1794) at one time preserved in a wrapper (ff. ii-iii) endorsed 'Mr Grimm's Lessons' and now arranged as follows, viz.:-(a) castles, churches, etc., unidentified and some possibly imaginary. ff. 1-10;-(b) landscape designs for ornamental title-pieces or cartouches. ff. 11-19;-(c) sketches of trees, etc. ff. 20-21. Other drawings by Grimm are in the Departments of Manuscripts (Add. MSS. 5670-5675, 5678, 15537-15548) and of Prints and Drawings. On Grimm's life and work see Rotha M. Clay, Samuel Hieronymus Grimm, 1941. Paper; ff. iii + 21. Quarto. XVIII cent. According to a note on the wrapper (f. i) the drawings formed part of the collection of drawings by Grimm bequeathed to the British Museum in 1809 by Sir Richard Kaye, 6th Bart., Dean of Lincoln, and were transferred to the Department of Manuscripts from that of Prints and Drawings in 1850 (Add. MSS. 15537-15548).
