THOMAS CISTERCIENSIS, Commentary, in Latin, on the Song of Solomon, Books VIII-XII. Imperfect, beg. in Book VIII 'Invenerunt me custodes', cf. Migne, Patr. Lat. ccvi, col. 548, l. 9; ends in Book XII 'sine caritate pro nichilo', cf. ibid., col. 821, l. 38. For another MS. of the work see Add. MS. 34272. Vellum; ff. iii + 116. 145 mm. x 110 mm. Early XIII cent. Written in several hands, probably in France. Gatherings mainly of 12 leaves (ii14, vi22, vii16, viii[last]16), sometimes with catchwords. Contemporary foliation ii-cxv (xlix, lxiii duplicated) on the verso of each leaf, beg. at f. 1b. Initials and marginal rubrics in red. At f. iii there is a note in Latin on the commentary's authorship in an 18th-cent. French hand. The initials (?) 'C. A.' have been stamped in gilt at the foot of the spine of the binding, which is 18th-19th cent. Dobell's cat., Nov. 1926, no. 30.
