KNIGHT PAPERS. Family correspondence and papers of Robert Knight, M.P., b. 1702, d. 1772, of Barrells, co. Warw., created Baron Luxborough 1745 and Earl of Catherlough 1763; 1734-1771, n.d. Knight, who was a son of Robert Knight, the absconding cashier of the South Sea Company, married in 1727 Henrietta St John, d. 1756, half-sister of Henry St John, 1st Viscount Bolingbroke, from whom he became separated in 1736. The first part of the present correspondence deals, among other matters, with the arrangement of this separation, and includes letters from Bolingbroke to his sister and to Knight, supplementing those in Add. MS. 34196. The remainder relates chiefly to the affairs of Knight's daughter, Maddalena Henrietta, who was divorced from her first husband, Charles Wymondesold, in 1754, and subsequently married the Hon. Josiah Child, brother of John, 2nd Earl Tylney; on the latter's death in 1761, she married thirdly the Comte du Roure, by whom she had a son who achieved some notoriety in the French Revolution. Paper; ff. 170. Folio. 1743-1771, n.d. Presented, through the Friends of the National Libraries, by Lord Catherlough's great-great-granddaughter, Mrs Catharine Octavia Higgon.
