HEYWOOD PAPERS. Notebooks, diaries, etc., of the Rev. Oliver Heywood, (d. 1702), Presbyterian minister of Coley Chapel, Halifax, W.R., co. York, and (vols. XIII-XIX) of, or relating to, his family and descendants. Most of the personal material was published by J. Horsfall Turner, The Rev. Oliver Heywood ... his Autobiography, Diaries, Anecdote, and Event-Books, 4 vols., 1882-1885. Some other material is included in the Whole Works of the Rev. Oliver Heywood, 5 vols., 1825-1827. See also W. E. Tate, 'A Puritan Yorkshireman and the Yorkshire Schools', Leeds University Review, Dec. 1962. The majority of the volumes passed into the possession of the Rev. Richard Astley through his marriage with Heywood's great-great-granddaughter Ann, but vol. V was acquired by him by gift of W. H. Rawson. Astley's bookplate, or signature as owner, appears in vols. I-IV, VI-VII, IX-XI. Nineteen vols. Paper. Duodecimo except vol. XII (folio) and vols. XIII, XIV, XVII, XVIII (quarto). Bequeathed, with Add. Ch. 71434-71436, by the Rev. Richard Astley's grandson, Harry Astley Roberts, Esq. (See also Add. MS. 46172, B, C, and Add. Ch. 71437-71490, which were presented by Lieut.-Cdr. C. L. Payne, R.N., to whom they had been bequeathed by H. A. Roberts.)
