REGISTER OF LEASES of parcels of land in various counties, made in the Court of the Augmentations and Revenues of the King's Crown; 1 Apr. 1550-10 July 1551. Latin. Contains particulars of each lease, headed by a brief identificatory description of the lands, etc., concerned, with (in the left margin) the name of the county, date of the lease, and a memorandum concerning the payment of the relevant fine, etc., and, in the right margin, the amount of the annual rent. The recipient of the fines, where named (as is generally the case), is given as Anthony Butler, clerk to the Treasurer of the Court. Although the register is without apparent geographical limitations, it does not include all leases found in the Court's statutory enrolments for the period (Public Record Office E. 315/221-223) nor do its entries follow the latters' order. Presumably it was compiled in connexion with accountancy procedures. For other registers of the Court's leases, in slightly different form, for the period 3 & 4-4 & 5 Philip and Mary, see also Harley MSS.
606-608. Paper; ff. iv + 103. Folio. 1550-1551. Contemporary limp vellum cover. Bought at the sale of the library of George Montague, afterw. Montague- Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax (Sotheby's, 21-25 Nov. 1806, lot 762) by George Gardner of Lincoln's Inn and Birthwaite, co. Westm. (see his signed note on the flyleaf, f. iii). Presented by his descendant, E. P. Hudson, Esq.
