PAPERS relating to the Cinque Ports, etc., in co. Kent, viz.:-
1. "THE boke of the lawes, vsages, and customes graunted vnto the poorte of Hastynges of Kynges that were [in] Ingland sythens the conquest hitherto," ratified by Edward IV., f. 7.
2. Names of the Cinque Ports with members, or dependent towns, and a note of the number of ships provided by each, f. 16.
3. "The customarie boke," of the manors of Esshetisford [Ashford], Elham, and Esture, co. Kent, belonging to the dean and canons of St. Stephen's chapel, Westminster; 3 Oct. 1516, f. 17.
4. "Feoda Militaria in Com. Kanciae," a list similar to the assessments for the aid to knight Edward, the Black Prince, in 20 Edw. III. [1346-7], but with additional names. See Lansd. MSS. 276, f. 89b, and 309, f. 123 b, and Archaeologia Cantiana, Vol. X. f. 22.
5. "The customes and ordre of v portes and theire membres, taken out of diuerse custumalls of the v portes, newlye corrected by the learned counsaile of the sayd v portes," 20 Hen. VII. [1504-5], and further corrected and augmented, 19 Hen. VIII. [1527-8], f. 40. At the beginning are inserted:-The oaths of the mayor, and other officers of Hythe, co. Kent, extracted in 1673 from an "Assembly booke" of 1642-1649, ff. 1, 4, 6 b; and a table of contents, f. 2. Paper; xvith and xviith centt. Belonged to John Lee in 1704. Folio.
