"Iter Boreale, anno salutis 1639; et dessidice inter Anglos et Scotos. Inchoatum 1o Aprilis, Finitum 29o Junii." The journal of a Privy Chamberman Extraordinary, or one of the mounted corps of the King's servants under command of the Lord Chamberlain, begnning with "My journey [from Sir Henry Willoughby's house at Risley, co. Derby] to Yorke to attend the King (as a Privy Chamberman Extraordinary) on the behalfe of my Brother., anno 1639, Aprill 1o," and recording. observations on places and incidents on the march of the army from York to Berwick,to 20th June, when the treaty was signed with the Scotch. The journal ends with the arrival of the writer at Aston on the 29th of June. At the end are tables of Scotch coins and measures, and of the number of miles from place to place of the journey. The writer was probably John Aston, brother of Sir Thomas Aston, Bart., who married the daughter and heiress of Sir Henry Willoughby, Bart., of Risley. Paper. Small Quarto.
