COLLECTION of Monastic Rules:-
1. " LIBER institutionum beati [Johannis] Cassiani presbiteri ": in twelve books. With the colophon, O bone lector lectrixque seribtoris misello memento." f. 4. At the end are: ch. xviii. of the Rule of St. Leander, f. 113 b; and Bk. xxxiv., ch. 23 of the Moralia of St. Gregory, f. 114.
2. " Regula sancti Macarii qui habuit sub ordine suo quiilque milia monachorum." f. 115 b.
3. " Precepta patris nostri sancti Pacomi hominis dei qui fundavit conversationem cenobiorum ad [sic] principio per mandatum dei ": preceded by the Preface of St. Jerome and a Life of St. Pachomius. The Rules comprise the first series (Migne, Patrologia, vol. xxiii. col. 65), the chapter " de virginum monasterio," beg. " Nemo ad cas uadat " (ibid., col. 86), the series " quo modo collecta fieri debeat," etc. (ibid., col. 77), and the series 'beg. " Plenitudo legis" (ibid., col. 81). At the end is an epistle of St. Pachomius "ad Sirum patrem monasterii Cenum et Ihoannem prepositum domus eiusdemMonasterii"(ibid.,col.91). ff.117b-142.
4. " Regula sancti Basilii episcopi " Cappadociæ; preceded by a table of chapters and the Preface of Rufinus. f. 142.
5. " Regula sancti patris Benedicti abbatis." At the end, after the colophon, is a " Capitulum de omnibus uitiis." f. 194.
6. " Regula beati Isidori episcopi " Hispalensis. Imperfect, ending in the middle of ch. iii. [ii.] ',de abbate." Between this and the next article two quires have been lost. f. 223.
7. Regula Monachorum S. Fructuosi Bracarensis episcopi. Imperfect wanting the first five chapters. The last chapter is xxiiii. " de senibus," one of the two which are said to be omitted in other MSS. f. 224.
8. " Regula domni Fru[ctu]osi Gallicensis [sive Bracarensis] episcopi " . the second rule of St. Fructuosus, or " Regula Monastica communis." Imperfect, ending in the middle of ch, ii. f. 230 b. In a later hand:-
9. Fragment of the commentary of Smaragdus on the Rule of St. Benedict. f. 233. On the inside of the cover is a letter from Fr.Thomas Gomez, dated, Monastery of S. Maria de Palazuelos, 8 May, 1656, returning the MS. to the Monastery of S. Pedro de Cardeña, diocese of Burgos, from which it had been borrowed by Francisco Bivar, of the Monastery of Nucala (ob. 1634). The MS. is frequently referred to by Bivar in his work De veteri Monachatu, continued by Gomez, Lugduni, 1662. See also F. de Berganza, Antiguedades de España, 1719, vol. i. p. 19. Vellum; ff. 237.
