ORIGINAL Correspondence of William Hayley, the biographer of Cowper, with the poet's cousin, Harriet, daughter of Ashley Cowper and widow of Sir Thomas Hesketh, 1st Bart.; 1797-1803. Two volumes. Vol. i. 30 July, 1797-23 Dec. 1801. Vol. ii. 7 Mar. 1802-18 Dec. 1803. In vol. i., at ff. 9, 53, 118 b, 135, are sonnets by Hayley; at f. 113, "Lines written by a gentleman on seeing a beautiful engraving of Mr. Cowper"; and at f. 199 are two short pieces by Theodora Cowper, the " Delia" of the poet. In vol. ii. pieces by Hayley appear at ff. 5, 8, 8 b, 17, 82 b; and at f. 88 is an " Elegy on the death of Wm. Cowper by an officer of the 24th Regiment ... 1800." Short poems of Cowper occur in vol. i. f. 185, and vol. ii. f. 60. Both are printed in his works. Paper; ff. 200, 162. Quarto.
