The collection of Edna Iles (1905-2003), pianist, and pupil of Nikolai Medtner (1880-1951), comprising autograph and manuscript scores of Medtner's works, letters and other papers.
Medtner's method of working was to write in pencil and then give the score to his wife Anna who would write over his pencil score with ink, sometimes apparently rubbing out the pencil as she went. Many of the scores in this collection display this method of working.
