LIVES OF SAINTS, etc.,in Latin, viz.:-
1. " Vite sanctorum patrum ": the " Verba Seniorum," attributed to Rufinus, with the prologue " Vere mundum quis dubitet," etc., and the colophon " Explicit liber ii. de vitis sanctorum patrum." Both in matter and order there are frequent deviations from the text of Migne, Patrol. Lat,., vol. lxxiii. 739, many of the Verba being from other Divisions of the Vitae Patrum. The second quire (ff. 9-16) is out of its proper position (after f. 128). f. 1.
2. " Incipiunt ammoniciones diversorum patrum ": a miscellaneous collection, beg. " Dixit abbas Iohannes pusillæ staturæ, " and including sayings of Amonas, Evagrius, Ursicius, Syncletica, Antonius, Macarius, Pastor, and many others. f. 57.
3 " lncipit prologus Heraclii episcopi de vita sanctorum patrum the "Historia Latisiaca" of Palladius (Migne, vol. lxxiv. 543), without the prologue " Multa quidem et varia," but preceded by the " Epistola ad Lausum " ascribed to Palladius and to Heraclides, Bishop of Ephesus. The text of this letter differs from that of Migne, ibid. 249 (cf. Patrol. Græca, vol. xxxiv. 999). With the colophon ",Explicit liber quartus." f. 104.
4. " Incipit liber quintus de vitis sanctorum patrum"; the " Liber quartus, auctoribus Severo Sulpicio et Joanne Cassiano," Migne, vol. lxxiii. 813, with variations, preceded by the prologue " Frequenter ac sæpius." The latter part is misplaced in the volume (ff. 9-16). With the colophon (f. 16 b), ",Explicit liber quintus de vitis vel exhortationibus sanctorum patrum." f. 120.
5. " Narratio Leoncii, Neapoleos Cypriorum insule [episcopi], de vita et actione sancti Iohannis [Eleemonis], archiepiscopi Alexandrie " ; with the prefatory letter of Anastasius Bibliothecarius, the translator. See Migne, vol. lxxiii. 337. f. 129.
6. " Vita vel penitentia sancte Marie Egiptiace "; translated from the Greek of Sophronius, Patriarch of Jerusalem, by Paulus Diaconus. The present copy is without the translator's prefatory letter (Migne, vol. lxxiii. 671), the author's prologue (abridged) having instead a few lines of introduction giving the translator's name. f. 155.
7. " Ieronimus ad Innocentium de [muliere] septies percussa ": Epist. i. 1 (Migne, vol. xxii. 325). f. 164 b.
8. Extracts from SS. Jerome and Ambrose concerning the penitence of Solomon. f. 166 b.
9. " Liber de diligendo Deo Berna[r]di Clarevallensis abbatis "; see Migne, vol. clxxxii. 973. Wanting a leaf or more after f. 173, which ends in the middle of ch. xiv. The contents of the last leaf appear to be from a different work ; but at the end is the colophon, " Explicit liber sci. Bernardi de diligendo deo." f. 167. Vellum; ff. 174. Late xiith cent. On f. 174b is the name René de Champ (16th cent.). With book-plate of John Hope, 4th Earl of Hopetoun. Folio.
