TREATISE on Music, by Ugolino di Orvieto; with the heading " Declaracio Musice Ugolini Urbeuetani." In the introduction (f. 5 b) the work is said to consist of five books: " quorum liber primus est de plana musica; secundus de musica melodiata simplici seu contrapunto ; tercius de musice mensurata egregii magistri Johannis de Muris explanacione; quartus de proporcionibus musicalibus; quintus est de tocius musice parcium speculacione." But after some preliminary matter there are six blank leaves, and then (f. 12) "Incipit liber quartus Musice Discipline." At the end of the volume is the colophon: " Explicit Liber Quintus Musice. Magistri Ugolini Urbeuentani, Ferariencis Archipresbiteri. Scriptus Pisauri a me Fratre Nicolao de Curte Papiensi ad requisitionem venerandi religiosi Domini lacobi de Cincinnatis de Grauina, Pisauri canonici, etc., 1477, die 2a Ianuarij. Tempore quo auditum est flagitiosum et nefarium facinus et proditorium, scilicet proditorem quendam oceidisse illustrissimum ducem Mediolani Galeazum quintum Sfortiam, facinus lamentabile et fere et omnino omnibus mestum atque lacrimabile et maxime memorabile atque admodum atrum." Paper.; ff. 110. On f. 110b is inscribed "Franchini Gafori Laudensis musice professoris est hic liber " (v. also f. 4 b). Gafori (b. at Lodi, 1451, Prof. of Music at Milan, d. 1522) bas prefixed a table of contents. With book-plate of John Hope, 4th Earl of Hopetoun. Quarto.
