COLLECTIONs relating to the city and see of York from 1411 to 1656; written in a single band as far as 1647.
1. " An Inventory of all the jewelles, plate, coapes, vestmentes and other ornamentes, as well within the Revestrye (sic) of the Cathedrall Church of St. Peter of Yorke, as alsoe apperteyneinge to the Highe Alter there, in the tyme of Edward the Sixte." f. 1.
2. " The names [with brief particulars] of all the archbishops of Yorke," down to John Williams, " yet liveing, anno dni. 1636." This must be a mistake for 1646, Williams not having been translated to York until 1641. The dates of his death (1650) and of that of his predecessor Neale (1640) are added in another hand. f. 7.
3. " The memorable and worthie guifte of Sir Thomas White, merchant taylor, Lord Mayor of the cittye of London ": an account of the benefaction of Sir T. White (ob. 1566) to Bristol, and of f.104 to York and other cities in yearly rotation. Extracted from Anthony Munday's Briefe Chronicle of the Successe of Times, 1611, in the possession of Brian Batson. f. 12.
4. "The names of all the colledges, houses of religion, prioryes, nunneryes, parishe churches, and capples (sic) within the citty of Yorke and suburbes of the same "; 16th cent. f. 13.
5. " A statute for the vniteing of certaine churches within the cittye of Yorke," 1 Edw. VI., cap. 9; followed by an ordinance of Archbishop Edwin Sandys and others to the same purpose, 27 Jan. 1585 [6]. ff. 15, 17.
6. " A decree [of Henry Bowet, archbishop,] for precedency of place betwene the citti zens of Yorke and them of the spirituall courte " ; " Aug. 1411. Exhibited in the Consistory Court, 11 June, 1526. Lat.; with imperf. translation. ff. 19, 22.
7. " The names of all the Highe Sheriffes of Yorke," from 1485 to 1648, the last name being added in another hand. f. 24.
8. " The names of all the Maiors, Bailiffes and Sheriffes of the Citty of Yorke," from 1273 to 1656, the first hand ending at 1646. Historical notes, more frequent towards the end, are included, differing from those in the list of mayors, etc., as printed in 1664. f. 26. The additional entries. appear tobe in the hand of Richard Girdler, whose name as owner, with the date 1655, is on the inside of the cover. Paper; ff. 53. In vellum covers. Folio.
