LETTER-BOOK Of James Butler, 2nd Duke of Ormonde, containing copies of his letters to the Pretender, Cardinal Alberoni, the Duke of Mar, and others, written from Paris, Madrid, Valladolid, Coruña, Lugo, etc., and relating to a projected invasion of Scotland from Spain and to other Jacobite schemes; 4 Nov. 1718- 27 Sept. 1719. The letters, which are in the hands of secretaries, number 199 in all, including 23 to the Pretender and 57 to Alberoni. The correspondents (whose names are given in the Index) are frequently addressed under fictitious names, a key to which, and to similar pseudonyms in the text, is subjoined. At the beginning is the heading " Sam's letters beginning in November, 1718 " ; and the vellum cover is lettered "No. 3." Paper; ff. 90. Small Folio.
