1. " Prima pars Exemplorum in moralibus per narraciones " : a collection of church tales. For description, see the Catalogue of Romances. f. 2.
2. " Secunda pars exemplorum in moralibus naturalibus et artificialibus secundum alphabetum ": moral precepts and reflections on various subjects arranged in alphabetical order. Imperfect. f. 92. Beg.: " Abstinencia. Quando homo habet filium " ; and breaks off in the paragraph on " Mundus," with the words " ; in die iudicii a patre fam (sic) verberabuntur," and the catchwords " quia non habuerunt." At the end of the paragraph on " Avaricia " are the following lines (f. 95) :-
" Whan pc nyÞyng is ded . and lyÞ by Þe Wowe ComeÞ a prout ong man and wo eÞ his loue DrynkeÞ of his broun ale ant et of his lhoue And singeÞ for his saule gyuelgoue," with the French equivalent:-
Quant ly auers est mort et gyt south la bere Vient vn ioefne bacheler e daimye sa bele Boyt de soun bone vyne e mount sa sele Et chaunt pur lalme va la ly durele." Short English sayings occur in several passages, e.g. at 100 b, " Quando multi extranei nimis frequentant domum alieujus cito ducunt cum ad paupertatem et ideo dicitur in anglico. Comors and goers bryngeÞ hym al to na.te." Vellum; ff. 128. xivth cent. The fly-leaves (ff. 1, 126) are from a Latin Lectionary of the 13th cent. At f. 92 is a memorandum in a contemporary hand, " de quadam strage patrata per donaldum madgnis prope Castrum Viride," on 5 July, 1497, " qua quidem strage mortem subierunt nobilis Tebaldus Verdon ac famosus Bernardus magmawne tunc temporis sue nacionis capitaneus." At f. 127 is a description of the contents of the volume, written in 1849 by J[ohn] H[ewitt] J[ellett, Provost of] Trinity College, Dublin [1881-1888]. Large Octavo.
