FORTY-ONE original letters from Sir William Hamilton, English Minister at tho Court of Naples, to Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Banks, G.C.B., President of the Royal Society on scientific matters, chiefly with regard to Volcanoes and on the establishment in Naples, under the auspices of the King and Queen, of a garden on the English system; Venafro, Portici, Caserta, Narples, etc., 10 Jan. 1778-30 Jan. 1803. The letters contain numerous references to Sir William's liaison and subsequent marriage with Emma Hart. For the other side of this correspondence see Egerton 2,641. Paper; ff. 102. At the end are letters to Sir. J. Banks from from W[illiam] R[ichard] Hamilton, Under Foreign Secretary; Jan. 1811. f.99; -and from [?] William Hamilton; Chelsea, 1 Feb. 1818. f. 100. At f. 21 is a memorandum by Don Juan Vivenzio of the greatest rise and fall of the thermometer at Naples during the winter of 1784-85. Folio.
