"AN ELEGIACALL Poem vpon the euer admired Life, and neuer sufficiently deplored Death of Thomas lord Gray, Baron of Wilton, deceased" (sc. Thomas Grey, 15th Baron Grey de Wilton, who died in the Tower, 9 July, 1614), by Robert Marston. This MS. is apparently in the same band as the Grenville copy (see above, Add. MS. 33,750), but does not contain the prefatory epistle, and occasionally lines have been omitted, perhaps through the carelessness of the copyist, e.g. after 1. 14 (f. 17 b, cf. 33,750, f. 24 b, 1. 7) and again after l. 14 (f. 24, cf. 33,750, f. 31 b, ll. 5-8). On the other hand, this copy contains the whole of the poem, which in the other ends abruptly with the words "surest freind" (cf. present copy, f. 27 b, last line), and further contains the two pages there missing after f. 31 (cf. present copy, f. 24, l. 9 - f. 25 b, l. 8). At the end (f. 34) is a poem called "The Elegie." Paper; ff. 36. A.D. 1614-21. On one of the fly-leaves (f. 3) is the inscription, "To the right honorable Henrie Lord Viscount Fawkeland, Anno Dni. 1621 " [Henry Cary, cr. Viscount Falkland, 10 Nov. 1620, ob. 1633], and in another hand, " The Legacy or guift of George Hales deceased." With book-plate of F. W. Cosens. Small Quarto.
