On the cover is the half-erased inscription, in a hand closely resembling that of Henry Vansittart, Governor of Bengal 1760-1765 (cf. Add. 29,132, f. 143, etc.), " Copy Book of all Letters and Memorandums sent by me in writing from December 15th, 1756 "; but this title does not fairly describe the contents, which are as follows:-
