By George Siluer, gentleman, 1599." With " Epistle Dedecatorie " (ff. 4-6) to Robert [Devereux, 2nd] Earl of Essex. Probably the actual presentation copy, having Essex's coat-of-arms at f. 3 b, and that of Knollys (Lettice, daughter of Sir Francis Knollys, was mother to Lord Essex) at f. 7 b, both in colours. There is also a pen-and-ink drawing of a fencer with sword and dagger at f. 23. Printed at London, 1599 ; the last part (ff. 42-46 b), entitled " A briefe note of three Italian teachers of Offence," was reprinted in the Antiquarian Repertory, vol. i., 1807, p. 165. Other works on fencing by the same author are in Sloane MS. 376, ff. 1, 5 b, 32 b. Paper; ff. 46. A.D. 1599. At the beginning is inserted a letter, 6 Sept. 1841, describing the arms in the volume, from Thomas William King, Rouge-dragon, to Sir Samuel Meyrick, the then owner. Bound in tooled vellum. Quarto.
