RELIGIOUS and moral treatises, poems, etc., in Latin and English, viz. :-
1. Copies of two charters concerning the privileges of the Dean and Chapter of St. Peter's, York. Lat. The first begins "Ricardus Dei gracia Rex Anglie"; but it is witnessed by " Johanne Duce Bedford Custode Anglie" [1415-1422, under Henry V.], and Richard II. is styled in the body of it " nuper Rex." The second charter is by King Edward [IV.?]. ff. 2, 3 b.
2. Pilgrimage of the Soul, from the French of Guillaume de Deguileville. With coloured drawings, coarsely executed. f. 5. For full description see the Catalogue of Romances, vol. ii. p. 584.
3. Beginning of the Life of St. James the Greater, as given in the Legenda Aurea. Lat. Broken off abruptly in the middle of a column. f. 99.
4. Vision seen in St. Patrick's Purgatory by " Wyllyam of Stranton [sc. Stanton] . . . in the ere of owre lorde mo cccco and vj." Slightlyimperfect at the end. ff. 99-100b, 106-106 b, 119b-125.b. See Cat. of Romances, vol. ii., p. 487.
5. Narratio de Spiritu Guidonis. Lat. f. 101. See Cat. of Romances. At the end (f. 106) is a note, in the same hand, of the betrayal by " Mardocus de Menereth " of his confederates in the Soulis conspiracy, " circa hunc annum." The apparition of Guy is not dated here, but the copy in Cotton MS., Vespasian A. vi., f. 134, gives the date as 1323. The discovery of the Soulis conspiracy, on the other hand, is generally dated 1320 after Fordun (Skene, Historians of Scotland, vol. i., 1871, p. 348). Barbour, in The Bruce (ed. Skeat, 1870-89, p. 464), Bk. xix., places it after the defeat of the English at Byland (14 Oct. 1322).
6. Hymns in Latin, with English versions in seven-line stanzas. f. 107.
7. Narration by Edmund Leuersegge of a vision seen by him, when supposed to be dead of the plague, at Frome in Somerset, in May, 1465. f. 126.
8. " Reule of heremytes made and compiled of the blessed pope Celestine Þe V.," beg. " It behovys hermytes to dyspice and forsake the worlde." In seventeen chapters. f. 131.
9. " Liber de moralibus philosophorum": the translation [by Anthony Wydeville, Earl Rivers] which was printed by Caxton as The Dictes or Saynges of the Philosophers, 1477 ; but without either Wydeville's preface or Caxton's additions. f. 137.
10. " Epistola 'beati Barnardi ad Raimundum nepotem suum militem de modo et cura rei famuliaris regendi se ad familiam suam." f. 202. Formerly included among the works of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, but now generally ascribed to Bernard of Chartres (Hist. Litt. de la France, vol. xii., 1830, p. 265).

12. Letter purporting to be from " Baltizar by the grace of Mahounde . . . Sowdayn of Surry, Emp[er]our of Babulon," etc., to the kynge of engelond and fraunce, and Edward hys Bone," offering the latter his daughter in marriage. f. 203 b.
13. Catonis Disticha: an English version in seven-line stanzas, with many of the original Latin distiches. f. 204. Other copies of this version are in Harley MSS. 2251, f. 170, and 4733, f. 3, the former imperfect, the latter stated in the colophon (f. 30) to be " compositus per Magistrum Benedictum Burgh vicarium de Maldon, etc." Printed by William Coplande as The Boke of Cato, etc., 1558.
14. Religious poem, in stanzas of seven or eight lines, beg. " Howe holsum and glade is the memory." Imperfect f. 223 b. Paper and vellum; ff. 228. xvth cent. With book-plate of Rev. John Fuller Russell; and formerly belonging to Richard Hebor (Sale, 1836, lot 821). Tho following names (17th-18th cent.) also are written in the margins: Geo.
