MEDICAL, RECIPES, etc, in English. On ff. 2 b-4 b is a table of the contents of fr. 5-22, which begin with " Medicine for hedache " and end with " Medicine for man or woman þat wilbe litly dronke or is dronke." After this (f. 22 b) follows " An plaster þat clepeÞ is godes grace ... for it heliÞ alle woundes old and newe," with other recipes and lists of things good or bad for different parts of the body, ending with those " euel for þe stomak," to which is appended (f. 24 b) the rubric, " This was sent from alle þe leches and phisiciones of Mountepeleres [Montpelier] to dam Isabel þe quene of Engelond [wife of Edward II.] at þe praiere of þe king of Fraunce hure broÞer, and hoso wol be wel ware here of and vse it wel him nedeÞ no lechecrafte more ". (cf. Sloane MS. 100, f. 27 b). At f. 25 begins a series of recipes headed " Here maye mon se the vertues of herbys the whiche ben cold," etc. They include a few that are not strictly medical, as (f. 41 b) " For to make a pype of methegelyn." The series ends with a recipe " For the colde palsye " (f. 42 b), after which, according to the old paging, a leaf has been lost. Further recipes of the 15th cent. are entered on ff. 45-48; and on f. 44, which had been left blank, others are entered in a hand of tho 16th cent. Vellum; ff. 49. On f. 49 b is the name of Simon Barrsdall (early 17th cent.); and on f. 1 are notes signed by J. Bowle [vicar of Idmersham], dat. Easton, 5 Nov. 1768, and Samuel Pegge, the antiquary (ob. 1796).
