" EPISTOLE Magistri Petri Blesensis ": sixty-six of the letters of Peter of Blois, Archdeacon of London, not arranged in the order given in Migne's Patrologiæ Cursus, vol. ccvii., but all included in that edition, excepting that numbered xlii in the MS. (ff. 75 b-78), which has the following rubric: " Soldanus Persarum petiit per literas suas et per venerabiles nuntios ab Alexandro quarto papa [1254-1261], ut mitteret ei viros catholicos et prudentes qui eum erudirent in fide Christiana." The letter which follows,with the substitution of "Iconii" for "Persarum," is printed in the Annales Ecclesiastici of Raynaldus, ed. 1692, App. p. 612, under the 1257. See also Potthast, Regesta Pont., ii. p. 1399. The Epistolæ are preceded by:-
1. " Provinciale Romane containing lists of churches, cardinals titles, sees subject to the Pope, etc. f. 1.
2. Tolographical account of Rome, with names of it's fortifications and gates, hills, baths, palaces, theatres, etc. Lat. f. 9 b.
3. Lists of Archbishops and Bishops of England down to circ. 1223 with a few additions by later 13th-cent. hands. Lat. f. 11.
4. " Cathalogus sive cronica omnium pontificum romanorum et lmperatorum . . . et notabilia facta eorum," written in parallel columns. The last entries record the coronation of the Emperor Frederic by Pope Honorius III. in 1220. f. 20.
5. Brief extracts relating to Sens from the Chronicle of Sigebertus Gemblacensis and his various continuators. Lat. Inserted in a hand of the 16th cent. f. 31. At the end (f. 97) are copies in a 13th-cent. hand of papal bulls (a) of Gregory IX. to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the bishops, etc., of the province, announcing his election, beg. " Alto illius qui," dat. Laterani x kal. Apr. pontif. anno primio [23 Mar. 1227]. See Potthast, Regesta Pont., i. p. 681. f. 97 ;-and (b) of Innocent III. to the Bishop of Winchester [? Peter do Rupibus], reprobating his oppression of the Church, beg. " Si vera sunt que (le te nobis nunciantur," [circ. 1208 ?]. f. 97 b. Vellum; ff. 98 xiiith cent. Duodecimo.
